THE HAPPY PRINCE |

This musical is based on the fairy tale of the same name written by Oscar Wilde for his 2 sons. It is the story of a beautiful statue of the Happy Prince who is sad when he sees all the poverty and sadness in his city. He convinces a swallow on his way to the warm weather in Egypt to stay for a few days to take the jewels in the statue (his eyes, his sword and his gold plating and give them to the needy. The swallow stays too long and succumb to the cold weather. The townspeople hate the statue which has been stripped down to its cast iron. God sends an angel to find the two most precious things in the city and the angel picks the statue and the swallow who are then brought to heaven. |
There is a cast of 16 speaking parts, however several parts may easily be doubled. The chorus can be any size the director chooses to utilize.
